The essay delves into the disillusionment of typography and graphic design as a work of art. Golden argues type was meant to and should only ever be utilitarian and stringent; Used purely as a means to disperse information. In turn, the type specimen strives to contradict this very idea as well as using type to emulate actual classic works of art.
